Visit the center of Como
The Como origins are very old, dating back to Julius Caesar, in 59 BC he founded Novum Comum, a small town protected by walls. Today the center of Como is rich of history, interesting and characteristic views. Starting from Moltrasio in fifteen minutes you can reach Piazza Cavour by boat; it is directly on the Lake and home, during Christmas time, of typical Christmas markets. Moving towards the town center of Como you reach the Duomo, flanked by the Broletto, recently restructured. In the back of the Duomo, are the Social Theatre and the house of the “Fascio” a perfect example of the Terragni rationalism architecture. Next, you can find Piazza San Fedele, the Old Market Square, one of the most charming views of downtown.
In less than ten minutes, you reach Porta Torre, a medieval tower that protected the main entrance of the city of Como.
Bellagio and Varenna
Bellagio is considered the pearl of Lake Como, located in a lovely location in the middle of the promontory that separates the two branches of the lake, offers picturesque views, spacious, panoramic views and ancient villas. Bellagio center and the characteristic steps are flanked by flowering gardens and tree-lined avenues. La Punta Spartivento is a panoramic terrace not far from the center, which offers breathtaking views of both branches of Lake Como.
Varenna is a quaint, picturesque village overlooking Lake Como, where you can visit Villa Cipressi, Villa Monastero and Castello di Vezio.
Brunate
Brunate is a vantage point not far from Como, which is reached not only by car but also with a cable car. From the top, you can admire the city and the first basin of Lake Como. Starting from the main square, about a half-hour walk, you reach the Volta Lighthouse, built for the centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta. Today, from dusk to dawn, the lighthouse emits light beams of the colors of the Italian flag: green, white and red.
Curiosity: Between 6:30 and 22:30 hours, there is a cable car every 15 minutes. The time taken to reach Brunate by funicular from Como is 7 minutes.
Boat trip
From Moltrasio, opposite the Grand Hotel Imperiale is the landing of the public boat, which allow you to visit Lake Como from the lake and see villas, gardens and views that you can not see from the road. With a day ticket of Lakes Navigation (link) you can use more boats at a fixed price.
You can, alternatively, rent a private boat with or without driver.
